SmarQ Mobility: Technology

SmarQ Mobility utilizes Secure Mobile Application Platform (SMAP) as an end-to-end infrastructure for secure mobile transaction processing. This consists of hardware and software encryption, as a secure network infrastructure.

The foundation of the security of SMAP is to provide each mobile device and the transaction processing server with a Unique Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). Each SmarQ Mobility unit is assigned a unique identification code during the manufacturing process. When the unit is provided to a merchant, that unit contains a Secure Authentication Module (SAM) with a Private/Public Key Pair, which is then digitally signed by a Certificate Authority. The combination of the Unique ID and the signed Public Key is then registered to a specific merchant and stored, establishing a real time network with mutually authenticated nodes.

Additionally, a cryptographic processor contained within the SAM utilises RSA, DES and 3DES to encrypt and decrypt all transaction data.

To prevent any fraudulent conduct whereby a customer’s card may be compromised, SmarQ Mobility encrypts the data as soon as the card is read or swiped ensuring the merchant never has access to the card data. The transaction data is subsequently encrypted before it is transmitted from the mobile phone over the GSM/GPRS network.

SmarQ Mobility devices are PCI and EMV certified.
