SmarQ Processing: Technology

MiGS facilitates settlement by providing a Draft Capture File (DCF) daily to the acquiring MiGS Bank that can contain all of the transactions processed on behalf of the Bank. This file is produced at a standard time each day and delivered to the Bank via the following methods:

  • Bulk File Transfer via MasterCard’s daily MIP
  • Transfer via the internet using the MasterCard File Express (MFE), which is available via MasterCard On-Line (MOL).

Each Bank can decide which method of transport is the most appropriate for their operation.

On receipt of the DCF, the Bank processes the file to produce settlement records (eg. MasterCard IPM and Visa Base II) and perform settlement as normal.

The MiGS system has been designed to ensure maximum security for payment transactions. Key features include:

  • All MiGS system components are housed within the Australian Processing Centre's (APC’s) secure computer facility. The APC is routinely audited in accordance with MasterCard’s global security procedures.
  • The MiGS connection to the internet is protected by industry strength firewalls.
  • The servers running the MiGS software are configured as non-routing to prevent any access to the APC systems from the internet.
  • Card details submitted from the cardholder to MiGS are secure. Each request and response message exchanged with MiGS contains the Merchant ID, Merchant Transaction Reference, and other relevant parameters for the transaction, as well as a hash map containing any number of extended fields. The Payment Client uses Java serialisation to produce a byte string, which is then signed and encrypted using RSA security to ensure the data is trusted and the merchant can be verified as the originator.
  • Importantly, configurable by transaction type, the Bank can mask card details to the merchant. In addition, the payment page displayed to the cardholder can originate directly from the MiGS system, which would collect the card details directly from the cardholder using 128 bit encryption. In this way, the Bank can elect to shield the merchant from all card details collected.
  • The credit card authorisation message sent to the card issuer is secured using MasterCard’s BankNet system and other card organization's private global secure networks.
  • PCI DSS Compliance – MiGS is fully compliant with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).
